A Weekend of family entertainment at 6H Silverstone
The FIA World Endurance Championship is back at Silverstone for its now-traditional season-opening festival of sports car racing, and there’s more than ever on offer to entertain the whole family.
More cars, more racing, famous drivers and lots to see and do on and off track. The 6 Hours of Silverstone (15-17 April) is the opening round of the nine race world championship and a great opportunity to witness the spirit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the UK.
There is a full weekend of entertainment on offer with plenty to keep all the family enthralled during each day…for the young, the not-so-young, the active and not-so-active. Enjoy the 6 Hours of Silverstone both on and off track!
Jabberwocky
Jabberwocky is a young, French electro-pop group who, in 2013, launched the critically acclaimed Photomaton which has since had 15 million views on YouTube! The trio of musicians, producers and showmen are the WEC Music Ambassadors for the 2016 season and at Silverstone they will play a special set during the Pitwalk.
Jabberwocky will meet the fans, be seen around the paddock and on the grid to help promote the World Endurance Championship through their music, which will be one of the highpoints of the entertainment at Silverstone.
Racing simulators
Think you are the next Mark Webber, Anthony Davidson or Jann Mardenborough? Now you can see how you match up against them on a lap of Silverstone on a racing simulator. If you are unaware of the name of Mardenborough, he was the Welsh teenager who won a national gaming competition and became a top international racing driver as a result. It could be you!
Jump off
Parkour and base jumping are for serious adrenalin junkies, but how do you start doing something like that? Well, now you can try Jump Off - a base jumping style inflatable to give the experience of base jumping from a building. It’s the only one currently in the UK and, if nerves get the better of you, there’s a slide to return to ground level.
Mobile Zip line
Fly through the air on a zip line and see the WEC paddock from a different angle! Easily accessible via a staircase to a launch platform, at the top the participant stands in a barrel which is swivelled into position before he or she takes the jump. The launch platform stands at 8.3m tall and has the capacity for over 100 participants per hour.
Action Sports Tour
It’s a welcome return to Action Sports Tour for 2016, the riders putting on both BMX bike stunt shows and complete interactive give-it-a-go sessions with any age group. The show is a choreographed performance led by an entertaining and experienced presenter and all equipment is designed to operate in both wet and dry conditions. As always safety is the key and you will kick yourself if you don’t give it a try.
Climbing wall
The climbing wall is 35ft (10.5m) high and can be used by both adults and children. With harnesses and an experienced operator, what better way to race to the top against another member of your family or your friends?
Children’s quad biking
A fun activity to introduce children to 4-wheeled action, all taking place in a controlled and carefully laid out environment.
Roller Skating Rink
For those who prefer much smaller wheels under their feet, the roller skating rink is available and can be enjoyed by all the family. The rink comes complete with music and lights.
Dodgems
The dodgems are a popular fairground ride which have been entertaining people for decades; these come complete with lights and sound for the ultimate entertainment (Saturday and Sunday).
Moto Rodeo
A different style of motorbike entertainment to entertain the budding Valentino Rossis or Bradley Smiths of the world.
Tequila Patrón activation
If you are lucky enough not to be driving home, then why not come along and taste some of Tequila Patrón’s amazing products. There’s a lot more than you would imagine, and some amazing cocktails to be tried.
Meet the Drivers
Get an autograph, grab a ‘selfie’ or just shake hands with your favourite drivers including Mark Webber, Will Stevens, Bruno Senna and Andy Priaulx during the autograph sessions. The ELMS Autograph Session will take place on Saturday and the WEC Autograph Session on Sunday. Don’t delay to get your tickets as places for the pit walks/autograph sessions are limited.
Indoor Entertainment Area
Of course the sun is going to shine all weekend but, just in case it doesn’t, Hall 1 of the Silverstone Wing will become the indoor entertainment area at the 6 Hours of Silverstone.
There will be a cinema showing movies such as ‘Cars’ (of course!), remote control car track and giant Scalextric tracks, Batak machine, face painting, a soft play area for younger children and lots more to keep everyone entertained throughout the weekend. There’s also seating and a café facility for parents!
Giant Screens
Watch the racing action on giant screens at Woodcote, Stowe, on the International Pit Straight, in Hall 1 of the Wing and in the entertainment area. Visitors need not miss any of the action while enjoying other aspects of the 6 Hours of Silverstone.
