And now for something completely different: Twisted?
As the last Land Rover Defender rolled off the production line in Solihull, one company in the UK are ensuring the marque lives on in a totally different way - Twisted.
Started in 2000, Twisted take your standard Land Rover Defender to the next level, or 2... or 3... spending upwards of 300 man hrs per vehicle, they line all the panels, make sure all the doors shut properly, all the seals work, change fittings for stainless steel ones, the chassis is coated - and that is just the start. The core changes to any Twisted are suspension, braking and power.
The red six pot brake caliper with 365 mm vented disc was developed exclusively by Twisted with Alcon. It is the biggest brake on the market available to fit a Defender wheel. Twisted also developed a cold bite brake pad to compliment the caliper, providing an incredible amount of stopping power.
As for power, well anything up to a 6.2L V8 from Corvette is YES PLEASE! 500 BHP and a 0-60 in 6 seconds...
With production of the Defender at an end, Twisted have placed their largest order yet, worth a staggering £7millon for 240 Defenders from Land Rover!
Commenting on the demand, Charles Fawcett, Managing Director of Twisted said: “Our new range has attracted a great deal of interest from around the world and our order book is filling up. This is the largest order we’ve ever placed for new Defenders and it will allow us to continue to meet demand over the coming years. We continue to invest and grow our export markets, who value our focus on engineering, luxury, and the pure Britishness of the Defender.”
Twisted’s main business involves buying new Defenders and modifying them to individual customers specifications. It offers a range of four models, provides custom builds, and also restores and improves customers’ existing vehicles.
The company creates around 100 tailored Defenders a year, with prices ranging from £40,000 to £180,000 for vehicles that include a range of performance-enhancing mechanical upgrades and custom interiors.
