Bentley’s return to the track…
Thirteen, unlucky for some, is the amount of years Bentley has been absent from the world of prototype racing! Their last outing was in 2003 when Rinaldo Capello, Guy Smith and the legendary Tom Kristensen, driving the Bentley Speed 8, won the most prestigious race of them all, the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Some claim just a rumour, Bentley boss Wolfgang Durheimer says ‘it is a good idea’, but Prescott Motorsport has learnt we could see the iconic British marque return for the 2018 season, or even 2017 if plans come to fruition.
Durheimer, citing LPM1 as ‘too expensive and too complicated’, confirms if Bentley return then their new car would be built to the specification of LMP2. However, possible rule changes could see the ‘Bentley Boys’ return with an LMP1 entry. I guess we will just have to wait and see what the future holds…dust off those crystal balls people!
