FIA WEC: 6 Hours of Silverstone - Qualifying Report

With overcast skies the grid has been set for tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Silverstone.

The No. 7 Toyota Gazoo Racing of Conway, Kobayashi and Lopez will lead the field around the Northamptonshire circuit setting an average time of 1:36.895, with sister car No. 8 in second place. Third place was the SMP Racing No. 11 of Button, Aleshin and Petrov, with No. 17 taking fourth place, and the Rebellion Racing Team completing 3 ‘two by twos’ with 3 and 1 respectively.

Toyota decided not to rejoin for the remaining 5 minutes of the session after a red flag was brought out by the Racing Team Nederland spinning off and burying its rear wheels in the gravel.

It was a 1-2 for Jackie Chan DC Racing. No. 37 of Jaafar, Tan and Jeffri clocked in with a 1:44.896, 0.187 ahead of No. 38 of Tung, Aubry and Richelmi. Signatech Apline Matmut took third place.

LMGTE Pro pole position was taken by the No. 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK driven by Olivier Pla with an average time of 1:55.727. Second was the No. 97 Aston Martin Racing with an average 1:55.805 and the sister Vantage No. 95 with a 1:56.103.

The 91 Porsche GT appeared to be suffering some sort of gear selection issue early on in the session but overall pace seemed a bit off for both 911 RSRs, with 5th and 10th grid positions for tomorrows 6 hours.

LMGTE Am has new boys of Team Project 1 taking their first pole position with an average time of 1:59.001. TF Sport No. 90 took second place with a 1:59.275 and the factory Aston Martin Racing No. 98 was third setting an average time of 1:59.420.

6 Hours of Silverstone, Sunday 19th August at 12:00 local time.
