Hyundai Motor Group’s premium brand, Genesis, has unveiled its first-ever hypercar, the GMR-001, at a high-profile launch event in Dubai. The new LMDh prototype marks Genesis’ entry into top-level endurance racing, with plans to debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and expand to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2027.
The Dubai event showcased the GMR-001’s innovative design, inspired by Genesis’ distinctive “Two Lines lighting” and “sweeping parabolic line” styling elements. Created under the direction of Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ chief creative officer, the hypercar embodies the brand’s commitment to combining performance and design excellence.
The hypercar is based on an ORECA chassis and is the third LMDh car developed on this platform, joining the Acura ARX-06 and Alpine A424. Genesis Magma Racing, the factory team formed for this venture, will operate out of Circuit Paul Ricard, strategically located near ORECA Motorsport and IDEC Sport. This setup aims to streamline collaboration and enhance technical synergies.
Drivers Pipo Derani and André Lotterer, both seasoned veterans in prototype racing, were also announced at the event. The duo will lead the development of the GMR-001 and compete with the car starting in 2026. Before its Hypercar debut, Genesis Magma Racing will partner with IDEC Sport in 2025, fielding an ORECA 07 in the LMP2 class of the European Le Mans Series to build operational expertise.
