McLaren joins Hypercar grid in 2027

In a video message McLaren CEO Zak Brown announced McLaren will join the FIA WEC Hypercar grid from 2027.



Not much else is known at the moment, only that McLaren will be eyeing the "Triple Crown" of motorsport: winning the Monaco GP, Indy 500 and 24 hours of Le Mans all in one season.


With the addition of McLaren, the manufacturer count for the 2027 season now stands at 11, as Genesis (Hyundai, 2026) and Ford will also join the grid the coming years.


McLaren is currently only active in the LMGT3 class with two 720s GT3s run by United Autosports
