Petit Le Mans, Qualifying report "the close one"


An action packed hour and a half of qualifying is over and what can only be described as close in GTLM - but more of that later.

Overall pole goes to the #60 Micheal Shank Racing, Honda HDP Ligier with Oliver Pla behind the wheel in a time of 1:13.200 with Tristen Nunez in the #55 Mazda Prototype in 2nd and in 3rd Dane Cameron in the #31 Chevrolet Corvette DP, the top 3 covered by 0.842 of a second. A slight off track excursion for Tom Long in the #70 Mazda saw him into 4th.


 

In Prototype Challenge Robert Alon took the pole spot in the #52 PR1 Oreca FLM09 with a time of 1:16.411 over Alex Popow in the #8 and taking 3rd was the retiring Johnny Mowlem in the #20 with a time of 1:16.495

 

So now we come to GTLM.... 0.735 of a second - thats all you need to know! that was the gap between 1st and 10th in class after 15 mins of track action, In the end we saw Richard Westbrook take pole in the #67 Ford GT of Chip Ganassi Racing over the #3 Corvette of Antonio Garica and taking 3rd was Toni Vilander in the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE.


 

First to run were the GTD cars, pole in this class was taken be Jeroen Bleekemlen in the #33 Riley Motorsports Dodge Viper GT3-R with a time of 1:21.305 from the 2 Porsche 911 GT3 R's of Matthew McMurry #73 and Mario Farnbacher #23.
