In a tight qualifying session, Franck Perera in the #163 GRT Lambo, took Pole Position for the centenary edition of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps. With a blistering 2:13.718 he set a new qualifying record for the race since it became a GT-race in 2001. Perera, 24h of Spa-veteran, managed to stay ahead of Lucas Auer in the #48 Mann-Filter Mercedes.
Early in the session, in which all drivers had 2 laps to set a best time, 18 year-old Lorenzo Patrese in the #88 Tresor Audi, put in a stellar lap with which he topped the charts for most of the Superpole shootout.
It was Auer eventually who managed to beat Patrese's time, followed closely by Alessio Rovera in the #51 AF Corse Ferrari. Auer put down a 2:13:754. In his final attempt, when it mattered most, Perera delivered his record breaking lap, going 0.036s faster to secure pole for the biggest GT3 race of the year.
Within the top-10, we find entries from Lamborghini, Mercedes, Ferrari, Audi, McLaren and Porsche. A couple of favorites are found further down the line. For example the Rowe Racing BMW's will start from a somewhat disappointing p15 and p16. The two Astons that made it to Superpole are found on p12 and 13.
Tomorrows' race will start at 16.30 and finish on the same time on Sunday. As usual, the race with English commentary can be watched in full, live, on the GT World Youtube channel.
