A familiar pairing in the IMSA paddock for many years will reunite for the 2025 season as Wayne Taylor Racing and Cadillac will reunite beginning at the 2025 IMSA Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. The move, which has been speculated for months leading up to today's announcement, will shift the factory Cadillac effort from Chip Ganassi Racing to Wayne Taylor Racing. After previously running Cadillac DPI's from 2017 to 2020, their return to the Cadillac banner is one of the bigger moves in the paddock prior to the 2025 season.
WTR will field two Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh cars in GTP class adding to the confirmed single entry for Action Express Racing, which is now under the Cadillac Whelen name. The move comes at the departure of Chip Ganassi Racing from the Cadillac umbrella as well as a return to the IMSA paddock for Meyer Shank Racing. Drivers for the two entries have yet to be announced, however, the lineup is projected to remain mostly unchanged.
GM President Mark Reuss stated, "Cadillac Racing is thrilled to run an expanded three-car factory program in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Wayne Taylor Racing and Action Express Racing bring decades of proven racing and technical expertise, and we look forward to continued success on the track.
While the new name of the team does not include the Andretti Global name, Wayne Taylor Racing will still operate under the Andretti Global banner. WTR team principal Wayne Taylor stated, "I am so glad to return to the Cadillac family. Having teamed with GM for so many years, with so many wins and championships, and having enjoyed such a fantastic relationship with them, this global program we have put together could not be more thrilling. We have exciting things coming and I look forward to discussing our commercial relationships in the coming months.”
While the entries on the WTR side are set to remain unchanged, the driver lineup for the Whelen Cadillac is set to change drastically due to the departure of full time driver Pipo Derani and endurance driver Tom Blomqvist. Both Earl Bamber and Frederik Vesti are rumored to be joining the team, but nothing has been announced as of yet.
